Question 4 Evaluation

Question 4 - Evaluation

Our target audience is demographic over 25's because of the graphic violence as well as tense building scenes throughout the thriller which creates attracting to the audience as it breaks the audience's monotony of everyday life. however because of these violent scenes it makes unsuitable for young viewers in addition to this they would not have a clear narrative of the thrillers narrative.

The ethnicity would be in a primary of male British citizens (main secondary is female British citizen as we have limited female characters we have lost more female interest in the thriller.) we have many other secondaries but they would not be able to relate the narrative, actors or mise en scene as much as British citizens.

Our influences to achieve our target audience is from other T.V programmes such as 'True Detectives'; this helped with our opening sequence influences as it used silhouettes during its titles creting a mysterious and tense atmosphere which we wanted to achieve.

Evaluation - Question 7 - Preliminary Task

Comparison between the work of our preliminary project and our finished opening sequence:

During this preliminary project we needed to get comfortable with the new technology will be using in the production of our opening sequence. During this work we used new techniques such as over the shoulder shot making the audience focus change onto the character the conversation of the scene. furthermore we used a match on action which allowed us to have clear continuity through the scene and show the audience more points of view during this scene. In addition to this we stuck to the 180 degree rule (only keeping the camera the line of vision so that the audience does not get confused with the structure of look of the scene and should only be broken for effect) this supported the continuity of the preliminary project.
During the editing process we decided to not add any transitions other than cuts as as we thought it would confuse the audience on the continuity of the shots and distract the audience with dialogue, however looking back i believe it could actually support it with tension.

FINAL PRODUCT:

However with our final product THE UNIT, I feel was much better quality of work then our preliminary because of the use of editing and camera work. For instance the use of extreme close ups for the opening shots with the cutting of the paper was used to add mystery instantly to the opening sequence of a film as we as an audience do not know who or what this person is plotting. Furthermore the use of introducing of red and white production titles already started to build tension as it these colours represent evil and danger as well as innocence and purity giving intention of something lurking which is then supported by the musicality of the hard hitting beats. Through out the the opening sequence the use of editing is used through out final product; the use of the fade into black at 1:38 of the opening sequence extends the tension to the audience allowing us to keep them interested and develop the story. Then the use of fade into white was used to break tension. However at one point of the opening sequence a pan shot of the mysterious dark room seems unprofessional because the camera shakes and does not have a clear moving pan this is because we were not able to lay down the tripod in the limited space; if i was redo this shot i would of used the rig with the DSLR camera.

Evaluation - Question 6 Technology

What have you learned about technologies from the process of construction this product?

The research and planning Blog:

During the research and planning of the opening sequence we have been using our blog help visualize our ideas of the sequence itself and the narrative by the experimenting with varied uses of technology. The technology we used are:
  • Adobe Premier
  • Prezi
  • YouTube
  • Adobe After Effects
  • Mac computer
We used these technologies to allow our group to display our work in a creative way, such as the use of Prezi allowing us to display on blogger a new and creative way, making the blog more original with the key information.

The technology used to create our opening sequence:

At the beginning of the production we had challenging aspects to feel comfortable with the new production technology as we needed to know the in and outs of the tech to make sure we get the best and creative shots as possible.

The technology that we used were:

  • DSLR camera
  • Tripod
  • Green screen
  • LED light
The DSLR camera was a brand new piece/ updated piece of technology that we used before as it was to a more professional level. It different variations of focus for different situation such as close-ups, portraits and landscapes.

The use of DSLR camera in London:

we also used a new piece of hardware called a Green-screen; we had issues with setting up as we needed an extra back light so that we could edit it properly using Adobe software, so we overcome this problem by using a LED light on top of the camera.

Personally i feel that i have developed my skills with the use of the DSLR camera as we before started filming our opening sequence we needed to practice production with the tech so we would not hesitate and feel uncomfortable with the equipment. Here below was first initial try with the new DSLR cameras.

What technologies have allowed you to produce something really creative?

Using the our developed skills with the new pieces of technology, we had the confidence to create something interesting such as these silhouettes to create a more interesting shot for the Titles as we were trying to creating a title sequence more than an opening sequence.

We then developed the background of the the silhouettes shots with the software Photoshop. we decided to develop it so that we can fit it more into the genre of thriller more by using a typical convention; low key lighting which creates more tension to the atmosphere

Being able to publish our progress and work onto YouTube has been a very useful tool as it also allows to embed the work into our blogs giving a more visual creativity and allowing me to break up the text structurally. YouTube has not been the only software that help me develop my blog; Prezi a new modern presentation software that allow me to present my work with creativity using videos, sound, text and designs. I was also able to use A film recording using the QuickTime software on the computer hardware Mac so that a 'blog reviewer' would not have to always read from text.

Using the Green screen needed to be organized and careful use as we all needed to be there to be able to film and as it was expensive equipment we needed to be able to set it up  carefully. we also needed to think about the camera direction, level and focus when filming in front of the green screen as we were not allowed any of the background not to be green otherwise the background would not work.

because of the change of quality in cameras were able to get a professional look with our work using technique such as a focus pull. also we were able to show more creativity being able to use the green screen we were able to use software like after effects which made it possible to use green screen shots.
