Comparison between the work of our preliminary project and our finished opening sequence:
During this preliminary project we needed to get comfortable with the new technology will be using in the production of our opening sequence. During this work we used new techniques such as over the shoulder shot making the audience focus change onto the character the conversation of the scene. furthermore we used a match on action which allowed us to have clear continuity through the scene and show the audience more points of view during this scene. In addition to this we stuck to the 180 degree rule (only keeping the camera the line of vision so that the audience does not get confused with the structure of look of the scene and should only be broken for effect) this supported the continuity of the preliminary project.
During the editing process we decided to not add any transitions other than cuts as as we thought it would confuse the audience on the continuity of the shots and distract the audience with dialogue, however looking back i believe it could actually support it with tension.
FINAL PRODUCT:
However with our final product THE UNIT, I feel was much better quality of work then our preliminary because of the use of editing and camera work. For instance the use of extreme close ups for the opening shots with the cutting of the paper was used to add mystery instantly to the opening sequence of a film as we as an audience do not know who or what this person is plotting. Furthermore the use of introducing of red and white production titles already started to build tension as it these colours represent evil and danger as well as innocence and purity giving intention of something lurking which is then supported by the musicality of the hard hitting beats. Through out the the opening sequence the use of editing is used through out final product; the use of the fade into black at 1:38 of the opening sequence extends the tension to the audience allowing us to keep them interested and develop the story. Then the use of fade into white was used to break tension. However at one point of the opening sequence a pan shot of the mysterious dark room seems unprofessional because the camera shakes and does not have a clear moving pan this is because we were not able to lay down the tripod in the limited space; if i was redo this shot i would of used the rig with the DSLR camera.
